Austrian rookies take on Italian heavyweight for their home debut
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men

Klagenfurt, Austria, October 28, 2013. After their “Siberian debut” from last week where they lost to titleholders and vice-world champions Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK, the Austrian rookies of Posojilnica AICH/DOB will be playing on Wednesday their first home game in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. The task won’t be less demanding as they host another Volleyball heavyweight, Italy’s Lube Banca Marche MACERATA at the Sportpark in Klagenfurt.
“Any first home match in any tournament is something special but this stands apart” says Sports Director Martin Micheu. “This is a real challenge for our club also when it comes to the general organization since this will be the very first time we play in this hall. On the other hand, we know that many fans from all over Carinthia will come and support us as we challenge this real Volleyball standout from Italy” he adds recalling that MACERATA last week downed last year’s bronze medallists Zenit KAZAN in straight sets. Though they lost in straight sets to Lokomotiv, the management and coaching staff was nevertheless quite happy with the performance Posojilnica showed in Novosibirsk where they were followed by 25 fans. “We would like to follow up on the good impression we left last week in Novosibirsk” head coach Johan Verstappen says. “We still have to improve our serve and defence. However, I am sure that the players will be extra motivated for playing at home and they will try to surprise our opponent as well as the fans with a stellar performance. I know that MACERATA is one of the teams that wants to fight for the trophy so we will have to go for a miracle.”
The home match at the Sportpark in Klagenfurt has turned into a major event for Carinthia as a whole.
