Budvanska Rivijera goes for much desired home victory in their CL debut
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Budva, Montenegro, October 23, 2013. The goal of Budvanska Rivijera BUDVA in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League is to make the Playoffs 12. This is what the management of the team from Montenegro said shortly before their first game in Europe’s elite competition against Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE of the Czech Republic.
This summer Budvanska Rivijera signed a series of excellent players – Marco Falaschi, Aleksandar Milivojevic, Marko Bojic, Ivan Jecmenica to name only a few – and the roster was completed with the arrival of Aleksandar Minic. “Together with Milan Markovic, Luka Suljagic, Ivan Rasovic, and Vojin Cacic, these players compose a strong team that shall achieve the greatest successes in the history of our club” said the club responsible.
“We will realize a lot better where we stand and what we can achieve as we start playing in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League” added head coach Sinisa Reljic. “However, I believe that we can start with a good result in our game with Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE. It is true that they have a younger roster than last year and their three most experienced players are not going to play but this does not mean that they are weak. There are no easy matches or easy opponents in the Champions League. With the arrival of Marko Bojic and together with Vojin Cacic we have a couple a very strong wing-spikers. Minic already showed his great shape in the friendly matches that preceded the start of the season. Suljagic and Markovic are two more players we can rely on while Falaschi needs still time to adjust but he is also a valuable addition to our group. Anyway, we will take it match after match; so we first have to win our match with Jihostroj and after that we will be looking forward to the next rounds.”
“The Czechs seem to be weaker than last year so I think we can hope for a home triumph” said team captain Milan Markovic. “This match means a lot and will impact on the next rounds as well. This is not going to be easy because the Czechs have been playing together for a long time. Our problem is that we did not play any strong opponent before this game and we do not have a clear picture of where we stand right now. I think that we know less about our potential than about the strength of Jihostroj. If we serve strong I think we can easily disrupt their reception and then we need to perform well with our block and defense to bring it home” he concluded.
