PARIS returns to CL action playing Poland’s national champions Resovia RSZESZOW
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men

Paris, France, October 22, 2013. France’s PARIS Volley, winners of the inaugural edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League back 12 years ago, will return in action on Thursday as they play Poland’s champions Asseco Resovia RZESZOW in the first round of pool play. PARIS Volley and Asseco Resovia are considered the pre-favorite sides in group C and so this game is already going to have an impact on the look of the final standing come mid December and the end of the League Round.
PARIS Volley is the current leader of the national league with a 3:1 win/loss record after four rounds. Their victories over MONTPELLIER Volley and BEAUVAIS Oise – the teams marshaled this year by excellent setters, Raphael Redwitz and Franck Depestele – testify the potential of the team from France’s capital city. PARIS Volley has signed for this season a couple of strong Serbian spikers and also Spanish setter Guillermo Hernan, who previously played in the Polish national league. Marko Ivovic – a bronze medalist from the 2013 CEV VELUX EuroVolley – has been registering impressive tallies in every game since the start of the season while Goran Maric has gradually improved on the quality and consistency of his performances. In Ajaccio he was able to bring his team back on track fighting from 7:14 to 14 all with a series of terrific services.

Asseco Resovia also caught a good start of their season winning the Super Cup after edging Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE 3:2 and then scored two straight wins over Czarni RADOM and BBTS BIELSKO-BIALA in the national league. The roster of the team includes some players from Poland’s national team, such as middle-blocker Piotr Nowakowski, as well as the captain of the Belarusian national team Aleh Akhrem.

Asseco Resovia and PARIS Volley already played each other in the prelims of the CEV Volleyball Champions League a few years ago, with Resovia winning 3:2 in France but then losing 1:3 at home. Many Polish supporters are traveling to Paris together with their heroes and so the ambiance shall be great on Thursday night at Charpy arena. The home supporters shall show up in large numbers as well so as to help their guys claim that much anticipated first round.
