Yet another win for Croatia in Pool C
2013 CEV Volleyball European League - Men
Mogilev, Belarus, July 6, 2013. After qualifying for the final four on Friday, Croatia did show another good performance at Olimpiets sports hall in Mogilev that is hosting this weekend the last round of play in prelim Pool C of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European League – Men. Croatia edged Turkey in straight sets (25-23, 21-16, and 21-13) to assert once more their supremacy in the group. Only the first set of that match was close as Turkey’s Burutay Subasi pressured Croatia’s defense with his serve but eventually the guys mentored by head coach Igor Simuncic brought it home at 25-23 and afterwards easily controlled the game well marshaled by their young setter Tsimafei Zhukouski.
In the other match of the day the home heroes of Belarus suffered a major setback as they lost in straight sets to Israel (22-24, 18-21, and 14-21). The home team started out pretty well going up 7:4 and 14:10 in the first set but it was Guy Ben Gal – top scorer in the end with 12 points – who changed the course of the game for Israel. Their middle-blockers performed well and made only a very few mistakes to cash the opening set after a very close final rush. After that Belarus lost focus and determination and even the many substitutions – including the addition of home superstar Aleh Akhrem – tried by head coach Viktor Sidelnikov did not produce any result.
