Belgium cashes ninth win and ticket to final four
2013 CEV Volleyball European League - Men

Antwerp, Belgium, June 30, 2013. With one round still to go and coming up next week in Slovakia, Belgium qualified for the final four of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European League – Men by scoring on Sunday its ninth consecutive victory in prelim Pool A. Belgium edged Austria in straight sets (27-25, 21-16, and 21-13) to keep an immaculate record in the group and get the right to compete in the final stage of the competition scheduled for July 13-14 in Marmaris, Turkey.
Austria caught a very good start with Peter Wohlfahrtstätter pacing the way for the guests as they went up in the score and got two chances to cash the opening set (20:18). However, Bram Van den Dries and Pieter Coolman flipped the charts around and an ace by Matthijs Verhanneman did seal the 27-25 for Belgium. After that, Belgium dominated the scene in the next two sets (21-16, 21-13) to claim their ninth consecutive victory in the competition. “We made a lot of mistakes in the first set but fortunately we could bring it home. We have qualified for the final four and even though I do not know which plans our coach has, we’re ready for Turkey. Once you are in the finals you aim as high as possible” says Pieter Coolman.
“We have had our chances in the first set but after that they were simply better than us and they deserved this victory as well as the ticket to the final four” Austria’s middle blocker Peter Wohlfahrtstätter – who this past season played in Antwerp – stresses.

In the first match of the day Slovakia cruised to a speedy victory (21-10, 21-15, and 21-18) over Denmark to move up to second place in the standing of the group.
