Bulgaria books first place in Pool A, Romania and Turkey to battle for second
2013 CEV Volleyball European League - Women

Varna, Bulgaria, July 4, 2013. The home heroines of Bulgaria opened the last round of preliminary action in Pool A of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European League by downing their neighbors from Romania in three straight sets (21-11, 21-9, and 21-15) to cement their first place in the group. With this result Bulgaria will anyway finish the prelims in first place and in the next couple of days Romania and Turkey will be fighting for the second spot available to make it to the final four scheduled for July 13-14 in Varna.
“I am really satisfied with what we did this afternoon” said Bulgaria’s head coach Marcello Abbondanza. “Our goal is nevertheless to improve on what we did today and move up to the top of the European ranking”.
“I am not surprised by the result of this game because today Bulgaria played three times better than we did” stressed Romania’s mentor Marian Constantin. “Our goal remains to win the two next matches and qualify for the final four”.  

In the first match of the day Turkey easily edged Hungary in three straight sets (21-18, 21-14, and 21-16) to assert their credentials for a spot in the final four. Hungary managed to resist to the good tempo imposed by their opponents only in the first set but the final rush was controlled by the Turks. After that, Turkey played relaxed and could comfortably bring it home in straight sets.
“We have come here with the youngest and most inexperienced team” said Turkey’s head coach Mehmet Nur Bedestenlioglu. “Nevertheless we do hope to win every match we are supposed to contest this weekend here in Varna. We are improving match after match and I am very pleased with the performance that my players have showed this afternoon”.  
“My players have got the skills and what it takes to win but they were not focused enough. I hope they will disclose their full potential in the next matches” concluded Hungary’s head coach Laszlo Hollosy.
