Slovenia's girls celebrate qualification for final round
2013 CEV Youth Volleyball European Championship - Girls
Nova Gorica, Slovenia, January 6, 2013. The girls of Slovenia secured on Sunday a ticket to the final round of the 2013 CEV Youth Volleyball European Championship after edging their opponents from Bulgaria in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, and 25-19) to claim their fourth consecutive win in Pool D. With this result their first place in the group is no more in danger and the girls can play extremely relaxed their last match against Croatia on Monday.
The match starring Slovenia and Bulgaria was going to determine the side likely to finish first in the Pool and the home heroines started out strong going up by 8 points at the second technical time-out before cashing the first set with a massive 25-14. Things did not change much in set 2 where Slovenia set the pace of the game with real confidence and the home side could eventually party in the end after scoring yet another win in straight sets.
In the first match of the day Romania took three valuable points by cruising past Israel in three sets (25-14, 25-14, and 25-17) and remain in contention for second place before Croatia – that had upset Bulgaria on Saturday – also claimed its second win in the tournament by edging Slovakia 3:1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-22). Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria – all with six points – will hence fight for second place and a possible ticket to the final round via the last round of play coming up on Monday.
