Turkey, Austria and Spain score second win in Ankara
2013 CEV Youth Volleyball European Championship - Boys

Ankara, Turkey, January 4, 2013. On Friday Turkey, Spain and Austria scored their second win to continue their quest for a ticket to the final round of the 2013 CEV Youth Volleyball European Championship – Boys via the qualifier that is taking place through this weekend at “Baskent” sports hall in Turkey’s capital city. On the other hand, the Netherlands, plus Romania and Lithuania had to accept their second consecutive defeat thereby already compromising their chances to make it to the Championship scheduled for next April 12-21 in Laktasi (BIH) and Beograd (SRB).    
After edging Romania on Thursday, Austria stretched its winning streak on Friday by cruising past the Netherlands after losing the opening set (3:1; 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-17). Austria’s Paul Buchegger topped the charts of the best scorers with 24 points including 5 blocks. Stijn van Tilburg registered 18 for the Netherlands but could not prevent the “Oranjes” from suffering their second defeat.  

Spain needed only 61 minutes to edge Lithuania in straight sets (25-14, 25-15, and 25-13) with the final outcome of this game never to be questioned. Spain’s team captain Carlos Jimenez paced once more his side with 14 points.  

Turkey rounded out the program of the second day by easily routing Romania in three sets (25-20, 25-20, and 25-15). Turkey’s middle blocker Emre Savas stood out in serving while wing-spiker Yasin Aydin contributed 12 points to top the standings of the best scorers.
