04/02/2013 19:06 Rookie Aurubis HAMBURG vies for semifinal spot 2013 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women Hamburg, Germany, February 4, 2013. On Wednesday Germany’s Aurubis HAMBURG – a club that is celebrating this season its first appearance in the European Cups – will play host to Romania’s C.S.M. BUCURESTI for the first round of action in the 1/4 finals of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women. This adventure in the European Cups has turned into a valuable experience for all players as well as for the coaching staff even though the schedule has become pretty hectic as Aurubis is busy also with the national league. “We could score some wins in the last rounds of the Bundesliga, now we shall keep momentum to get the right edge also in the Challenge Cup before the return game coming up next week in Romania” says head coach Helmut von Soosten. “We have a good roster and this is a good pre-condition to stand the busy schedule we have been going through. We have to step up the quality of our play with the goal to provide our fans with something to cheer about” he adds. Aurubis HAMBURG is only one step away from the semis where it would cross their ways with one of Europe’s top teams, namely Rebecchi Nordmeccanica PIACENZA of Italy or Rocheville LE CANNET of France. “I assume PIACENZA will make it to the semifinals and I wish we could do the same to play the Italians in the next round” stresses the head coach of Aurubis. Some fans have already booked their trip to Romania for next week in order to provide their heroines with the right boost to make it to the next round. Once more the supporters of Aurubis will first get together at CU Arena under the slogan “CU Arena – Volleyball meet friends”.
