Volero hopes for good performance in last match of its European campaign
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Zurich, Switzerland, December 9, 2012. Switzerland’s Volero ZÜRICH is already out of contention for a spot in the Playoffs 12 of the CEV Volleyball Champions League after losing five consecutive matches in prelim Pool A but still the Swiss would like to finish their European campaign on a high note as they host on Tuesday the undisputed leader of the group, Turkey’s Vakifbank ISTANBUL.
This is particularly true after Volero performed quite well this past week in Cannes and additional motivation is brought by the fact that this will be Volero’s last home appearance in this European season. Vakifbank, on the other hand, edged Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG with the score of 3:1 this past Wednesday to prolong its winning streak to five consecutive matches.
Vakifbank head coach Giovanni Guidetti will be certainly happy to travel to one of the venues of next year’s European Championship as he is also the current mentor of Germany’s national team. Some 10 months before the start of Europe’s premier Volleyball event, a bunch of stars including Christiane Fürst, Jovana Brakocevic, Polen Uslupehlivan, Bahar Toksoy and Malgorzata Glinka-Mogentale will find their way to Zurich to represent there the likes of Vakifbank.
After completion of the prelims, Volero will join its last international competition of the year by participating in the Women’s Top Volley International tournament taking place in Basel through this coming December 27-29. The event that gathers normally around 17’000 fans in three days will be joined also by Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI of Romania and Brazil’s Sesi SAO PAULO. With this tournament Volero hopes to get well ready for the second half of the season to eventually claim its eighth title in the national league hoping to get a wild-card for next year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League.
