Galatasaray claims second win in another act of their rivalry with Yamamay

Istanbul, Turkey, December 6, 2012. Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL edged Italy’s Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO for the second time in prelim Pool D of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women. The local heroines got past with the score of 3:2 (23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 19-25, and 15-13) to retain their leadership in the group waiting for the last match coming up next week in France against ASPTT MULHOUSE.
Galatasaray Daikin lined up Japanese libero Yuko Sano, a bronze medalist from the 2012 London Olympics, its latest transfer. The home heroines started out with a good pace (8:6) but Yamamay scored four in a row to flip the charts around (8:10). As they were trailing 16:19, the hosts were joined on the court by Selime Ilyasoglu who replaced Brizitka Molnar. Galatasaray closed the gap but still Yamamay eventually pocketed the opening set with the score of 23-25. Galatasaray controlled the game with ease in the second set going up 8:6 and 16:13, cruising quite comfortably to the final 25-19 and provisional 1:1.
Yamamay found it difficult to find a way through Galatasaray defense system also in set 3 and the hosts dictated the pace of the game also in that section of the game (8:4, 16:9); with Eleonora Lo Bianco and Yuko Sano standing out, the Turks quickly sailed to the final 25-18. However, BUSTO ARSIZIO was not ready to surrender and pulled together in set 4 (6:8, 8:16) to re-open the fate of the game as they called for the tie-break (19-25). This was definitely the most exciting and thrilling section of the game, with the score remaining very close (6:4, 6:7) before – after a tough fight and continuous turnarounds – Galatasaray seized the night (15-13).
