SOPOT scores away win in Prostejov to believe in Playoffs ticket
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women
Prostejov, Czech Republic, December 5, 2012. The fifth round of action in Pool B of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women clarified who is going to end up at the bottom of the standings. Agel PROSTEJOV suffered a 0:3 home defeat to Atom Trefl SOPOT (15-25, 16-25, and 24-26) which means the Czechs stay fourth in Pool B without any points in the standings. On the other hand Atom Trefl can still hope to make it out of the Pool play.
The opening set was orchestrated by the Poles who did extremely well in blocking. However, in set 2 the Czech champions stepped up and even managed to take a four-point lead (16:12). Unfortunately, after that they significantly slowed down their pace and allowed Atom Trefl to score unbelievable thirteen points in a row, which put this set on a different track. Set 3 seemed to be a clear win for the guests (8:16), but then PROSTEJOV started to play faster making the battle very close (24:24). Anyway, Trefl did much better and deserved to win the remainder of the third set as well as the whole match.
“This match was mainly about the opponent’s great blocking skills, which was a big problem for our attack. We do not have players like Rourke who is repeatedly able to score through double-blocks. This was decisive for the final result” says Miroslav Cada, the head coach of Agel PROSTEJOV.
“It is a pity we did not cross the border of sixteen points in set 1 and 2. Then the guests took many straight points and turned around the score in their favor. We did not manage to defend against Rourke. Although we did well in serving, our defense and attacking was not that good anymore. However, in set 3 we managed to get through their high blocks by making the game faster and this set stayed very close until the end. It is a pity we lost 0:3 because the match was not so crystal clear at the end” comments Solange Soares, the captain of the Czech team.
“The key to our success was in our reception and blocking and most of the time we did well in these two fundamentals. The hosts started to score when our reception or defense worsened. To sum up I think we were the better team tonight and we deserved to win” singles out Adam Grabowski, the assistant coach of Atom Trefl SOPOT.
“We are very happy that we won tonight. We had some problems only at the start of the second set and at the end of the third set because of our reception. The third set was a battle for every single point, but the important thing is we finally claimed it. Our 3:0 win is very important and makes us feel great” says Izabela Belcik, the captain of Atom Trefl SOPOT.
