Home win for RC CANNES to stay in contention for ticket to Playoffs 12

Cannes, France, December 4, 2012. RC CANNES scored on Tuesday its second win in the prelims of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women edging Volero ZURICH with the score of 3:1 (25-15, 25-20, 20-25, and 25-22) to stay in contention for a spot in the Playoffs 12 waiting for the last round coming up next week in Russia against Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG.
RC CANNES caught an excellent start (8:4) and dictated the pace all the way through in the first set (16:11) to wrap it up at 25-15.
Volero got momentum in the second set going up 4:3 and 8:5 as RC CANNES started having problems in reception. After a time-out asked by head coach Yan Fang, RC CANNES got back on track drawing level at 14 all; after trailing 14:16 by the second technical time-out, RC CANNES did impose its quality going for the 2:0 (25-20).
The guests from Switzerland set the pace of the game all the way through in set 3 (8:4, 16:10) and this time RC CANNES was not able to fight back, eventually surrendering at 20-25.
Volero stretched momentum to the early phases of set 4 (8:3) but RC CANNES stormed back with a series of ties following later in the set. A splendid attack by team captain Victoria Ravva powered RC CANNES back to the front (13:12) and after a close final run the hosts could finish it off at 25-22.
Best scorers of the game were Brankica Mihajlovic and Nancy Carrillo for RC CANNES and Volero with 19 and 22 points respectively.
