SCHWERINER SC shocks Italian rookie with straight win
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Schwerin, Germany, November 21, 2012. After losing 1:3 last week in Italy, SCHWERINER SC of Germany got its revenge on Wednesday – as well as its second home win in Pool E – by edging Robur Tiboni URBINO with the score of 3:0 (25-21, 25-6, and 25-19). With this result SCHWERINER SC keeps alive its chances to make it to the next stage of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women having a record of two wins and two losses after four rounds.
The match started with both teams playing quite patiently but gradually found its rhythm with a series of long rallies; Dutch player Quinta Steenbergen eventually pocketed the final 25-21 for the home side that eventually stepped up in the second set with Denis Hanke being absolutely stellar there and standing out from the serving line where she opened a series of eight consecutive points. The set ended with the incredible score of 25-6 for the home side but things changed in the next section of the game where a very close battle was to be enjoyed by the local audience. The guests from Italy went up 10:8 but SCHWERINER SC fought back and playing with consistency and determination could finish it off in straight sets (25-19). The audience erupted in joy after this classy act by the local heroines with URBINO clearly disappointed for that clear-cut loss.
