DRESDNER SC looks forward to real Volleyball party
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Dresden, Germany, October 29, 2012. DRESDNER SC is ready to delight its home fans as that side plays on Wednesday its first home match in the prelims of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League by hosting Poland’s Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA.
The results of this season’s matches are very encouraging for the side mentored by Alexander Waibl. DRESDNER SC lost last week 1:3 to Azerrail BAKU and cruised past SC POTSDAM and VfB 91 SUHL in straight sets in the Bundesliga. “I hope that the sports hall will be packed and the fans will enjoy a splendid Volleyball night. We had a great atmosphere for our home matches in the Bundesliga but the Champions League has its own flavor” says Waibl.
After taking one set last week from Azerrail, the young German side realized it is possible to cause a major surprise. “It will be a tough game as I think Tauron MKS stands at the same level as Azerrail. We have improved our quality in blocking and defense and last week we realized that we could play on equal terms even with Azerrail. We have gained valuable experience from that game and got stronger learning pretty much out of this” adds the German mentor.
Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA has caught an excellent start in the national league claiming the three matches played so far and even took one set from Turkey’s standout Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL in its home debut last week. “We are excited to see how they will play in Dresden. I hope my team can pressure our opponents a little bit more than we did in Baku" concludes Waibl.
One of the players included in the roster of Tauron MKS is already known to the German audience. Charlotte Leys joined the final four of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup two years ago in Dresden playing for Asterix KIELDRECHT of Belgium together with Laura Heyrman who is now starring for DRESDNER SC. Tauron MKS can count also on another member of the Belgian national team, namely setter Frauke Dirickx. “I am excited to see both of them. This past September all together we qualified for the final round of the 2013 European Championship. Charlotte is a strong outside hitter and Frauke is the best setter that I know” says Heyrman.
