Improving Irish fight like lions
2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship - Men

Motherwell, Scotland, April 5, 2012. In the second day of action for the final round of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Small Countries Division Northern Ireland came out on top while playing neighboring Ireland in a tight affair that is belied by the score line (25-15, 25-15, and 25-16).
One of the features in the Republic of Ireland’s 0:3 defeat was their “Never Give Up” attitude as they fought for every point. Speaking after the game, Ireland libero Stephen McEvoy felt that Ireland had improved compared to their first match against Cyprus. “I felt that we connected better as a team, and with practice, we will be able to improve”.
Outside hitter Cormac Dillon (pictured) reflected: “We started off well, much better than yesterday. We felt that we had more control of the ball at the start of the game but found it difficult to get past 12 or 13 points in a set. We fought for every ball and there were very few easy points given to Northern Ireland”.
Irish setter Aidan McDonnell agreed: “We performed well and our passing improved which made the setting easier”. When asked about how the team was getting on as a unit McDonnell said: “We work well together. There is a really good team spirit. When people are down, others are encouraging them to be positive. Everyone is enjoying the experience and working towards a goal as a team. We work as a unit and we are improving every day”.

Ireland’s next match in Motherwell is on Thursday against Luxembourg, with the first serve at 8:30 pm local time.
