Belgian ladies celebrate European ticket with splendid home win
2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Women

Kortrijk, Belgium, September 16, 2012. The ladies of Belgium’s national team sealed on Sunday their qualification for the final round of the 2013 European Championship by downing Slovenia in straight sets (25-18, 25-15, and 25-15). Even though the door was still open, France’s head coach Fabrice Vial had already left Kortrijk one hour before the start of the last match on schedule for the group. “I do not believe in miracles” he said.
Actually Belgium started out a bit nervous and Slovenia was helped by their captain Marina Cvetanovic keeping the score close up to 12 all. Finally Laura Heyrman took her side by the hand and she helped Belgium move to the front, together with Freya Aelbrecht and setter Frauke Dirickx. Tjasa Turnsek and Elena Kucej powered a good start for Slovenia also in set 2 (7:6) but it was Heyrman and Hélène Rousseaux who anchored Belgium to the provisional 2:0.
With Dirickx from the serving line, the spikes by Rousseaux and the blocks of Nina Coolman, Belgium cruised to the final 3:0 that was followed by loud celebrations together with officials of the Royal Belgian Volleyball Federation.

In the other match of the day France edged Montenegro in straight sets (25-22, 25-13, and 25-10) to finish second in the group and play Ukraine next May in home and away matches where a ticket for the final round of the 2013 European Championship will be at stake. Montenegro did not win any single set out of six matches in the Pool but on Sunday was able to keep the score very tight up to 20:18 in the first set especially via the contribution of Jelena Cvijovic in attack and via the services of Nikoleta Perovic. Still France stepped up in set 2 with Anna Rybaczewski and Hélène Schleck to cruise to a speedy 25-13 and things got even worse for Montenegro in set 3 where France was powered by their star Christina Bauer for an impressive 15:2 that paved the way for the final 25-10.
