Romania scores another win waiting for top match with Croatia
2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Women
Rovinj, Croatia, September 14, 2012. Romania opened the second day of action in Rovinj with another speedy win, this time by edging Great Britain in straight sets (25-21, 25-17, and 25-17) to wait for the last game against Croatia to finally book their pass for the 2013 European Championship.
“We know that tomorrow we’ll have our toughest game so we used the matches with Portugal and Great Britain to get well ready for this challenge” said Romania’s team captain Florentina Nedelcu. “Motivation was not our problem; we are a little disappointed because we believed we could win, but we made it easy for our opponents” stated Team GB leader Lynne Beattie.
Later in the afternoon the home heroines of Croatia did their job well by outclassing Portugal in three sets (25-13, 25-14, and 25-10). “Some of our players did not feel well today and it is tough to play a team you have beaten very easily only a week ago. They played their best and we did not. If you look at the result you may think that we have won easily but those who watched the game know it was not that easy” said Croatian captain Sanja Popovic.
“We are a young team and this competition is being played at a very high level. We only had a couple of weeks to prepare for this tournament and we still have much to improve” stressed her Portuguese counterpart Dulce Santos Machado.
