France cruises to third win waiting for second round robin in Belgium
2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Women
Maribor, Slovenia, September 9, 2012. France finished atop of the charts at the end of the first round robin in Pool E by claiming a third consecutive win at “Lukna” sports hall in Maribor, this time by routing their opponents from Montenegro in straight sets (25-14, 25-6, and 25-14). With this result France can look confidently to the second tournament that is scheduled for next week in Kortrijk, Belgium, and where a ticket for the final round of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship will be assigned.
Belgium finished in second place after besting the hosts of Slovenia also in three sets (25-20, 25-18, and 25-17). Slovenia actually started out strong (8:6) but Belgium gradually stepped up the quality of their play to pocket the opening set at 25-20. Slovenia could not find a way to respond to the solid game offered by their opponents and the second set went to Belgium as well (25-18). Slovenia, fired by the home audience in Maribor, caught a good start in set 3 (8:4) but in the end it was Belgium that re-asserted their supremacy to go for the final 3:0. Slovenia ends the home campaign in third place having beaten Montenegro but their quest for a ticket to make it to the European Championship looks complicated especially since Belgium will play at home next week.
