2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship - Men
Riga, Latvia, June 7, 2013. On Sunday Latvia will be playing the return game in the third and last qualification round for the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Men and vie for the golden set after losing this past weekend in Samsun to their opponents from Turkey. If the home guys succeed in winning the second fixture as well as the eventual golden set, they would celebrate their first European Championship appearance in 18 years.
After losing in straight sets to Turkey this past weekend, head coach Raimonds Vilde says: “It was not nice to lose the first match that bad, we got back with some negative feelings but I think that each player has gone through it and will be fully ready for our second clash here in Jelgava”.
“The first match is history; I admit that we did not play our own game there but we have to move on and look forward to the next match where I believe that the result will be much different” adds local spiker Viktors Korzenevics.
Latvia has got a unique opportunity to return back in action on the European scene after 18 years. The match is drawing much attention also beyond the Volleyball family, with fans supposed to pour in on Sunday and many more set to follow the game on TV or via Internet.
