France edges Spain to win highlight of the day in Szeged

Szeged, Hungary, September 6, 2012. In what was the absolute highlight for the opening day of the European qualifier in Szeged, France edged Spain 3:1 (25-18, 25-14, 17-25, and 28-26) to take three points that may be extremely important to determine the final charts of the group.
France started with a good tempo easily cashing the opening set (25-18) and things did not change in the second where the “Bleus” imposed their authority going for a speedy 25-14 for the provisional 2:0. Spain was able to change the course of the game in set 3 chiefly via the help provided by their opposite Iban Perez and finally the match got very close in set 4 where the audience in Szeged got to see some high-class Volleyball. After a very close battle, France got past at 28-26 seizing their first win of the tournament.
In the other match of the day Latvia beat the hosts of Hungary 3:1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-19, and 25-19). Hungary started out very slow and sleepy, quickly losing the opening set 19-25. The local heroes eventually woke up cruising to a comfortable 25-18 in set 2 before Latvia restored their supremacy in set 3 (25-19). The guests from Riga eventually stretched momentum also to set 4 and could pocket their first win of the tournament.
